The NFL season is one week away. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs are heavy Super Bowl favorites and conference favorites. However, both squads have serious question marks heading into the new season. Let’s take a look at the odds for the New York football teams to give gamblers a better sense of the value on the board.
Buffalo Bills
The Bills are the third-most likely team to win the Super Bowl. The Bills’ title betting odds are 10 to 1. The Bills are solid yet their bend-but-don’t-break defense sometimes struggle to stop the run. Thankfully, Star Lotulelei, the team’s mammoth defensive tackle, is back for the ’21 campaign after sitting out the year everyone would like to forget in an attempt to avoid contracting coronavirus.
Bills’ general manager Brandon Beane reneged on his statement that he would cut players who refuse to take the coronavirus vaccine. Cole Beasley and several other unvaccinated Bills players made the final 53-man roster. The Bills are clearly going for it all this year. However, the AFC will be uber-competitive thanks to the rising Browns, the always-dependable Chiefs and the reinvigorated Patriots. The Bills’ best season-related odds on the board are winning the the AFC at 5 to 1.
New York Jets
The Jets are loading up for a playoff run, completing what would be a rapid rebuild. However, the team has suffered several preseason injuries. Add in the fact that the team dealt tight end Chris Herndon to the Minnesota Vikings for a midround pick and the Jets’ prospects for a return to the playoffs become even more slim. However, the Jets’ games will certainly be entertaining thanks to the arrival of rookies Zach Wilson and Elijah Moore. The three-headed running back monster will likely prove to be quite the prudent strategy across the grueling new 17-game schedule. However, the Jets are still a long shot to make the playoffs.
Football gamblers should sit on the sidelines in the context of potential Jets’ season props until the trade deadline nears. If the Jets are in the mix at that point and the team swings a deal or two for a postseason push, a playoff prop bet on the Jets sneaking into the playoffs might be worth considering.
New York Giants
The Giants continue to swing deals for offensive linemen, adding Billy Price from the Bengals and Ben Bredeson from the Ravens. Both linemen can play several positions on the line, helping the G-men protect Daniel Jones all the way through December. However, unless the Giants add another starting quality offensive lineman via trade prior to the deadline, the team will likely be on the outside looking in at playoff time.
The Giants are 65 to 1 Super Bowl long shots. Th team is also unlikely to win the NFC title. The Giants are 32 to 1 underdogs for the NFC crown, slotting in behind the Bears, Cardinals, Seahawks, Packers and several other teams likely to be in the mix for a spot in the postseason tournament.
The only Giants season-related bet worth considering is the 4 to 1 payout for the NFC East title. The division will be weak once again this year as Dak Prescott attempts to regain his form in Dallas and Washington tries to develop some chemistry. New York stands a decent chance of being in the mix for the division crown come December. Consider putting a little something on the Giants to win the division now while the odds are decent. There might be an opportunity to hedge the wager down the line if the team is in the mix once the final month of the season rolls around.
