The Giants are looking to move to 5-1 at MetLife Stadium this season. The Giants enter as 3.0 point favorites on BetRivers NY Sportsbook, while the total is set at 46.5 points. These clubs have not met since October 2019 when Detroit defeated the Giants at MetLife Stadium, 31-26.
Lions Rally to Down Bears
The Detroit Lions (3-6-0, 5-4-0 ATS) found themselves trailing by 14 with a little over 17 minutes left in the contest, but scored 21 of the final 27 points to defeat Chicago, 31-30. A 20-yard interception return by Jeff Okudah tied the score, and Jamaal Williams scored from 1 yard out to deliver the game-winning blow. A missed point after attempt proved to be the difference in this contest.
Detroit gave up 408 yards of total offense, including 258 on the ground to Chicago, but that interception return proved to be critical. The defense also sacked Justin Fields three times in the game, led by Julian Okwara, who had two. Jared Goff completed 19 of 26 passes for 236 yards and a score. It was a solid rebound performance after throwing for just 137 yards against Green Bay the week before. Amon-Ra St. Brown had 10 catches for 119 yards.
S Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle), CB Chase Lucas (ankle), WR Josh Reynolds (back), and LB Marcus Rodriguez (elbow) are all listed as questionable. RB Craig Nelson (ribs), WR Jameson Williams (knee), CB Bobby Price (knee), WR DJ Chark (ankle), WR Quintez Cephus (foot), S Tommy Walker (Achilles), DL Levi Onwuzurike (back) and DL Romeo Okwara (Achilles) are all out.
Barkley Grounds Giants Past Texans
The New York Giants (7-2-0, 7-2-0 ATS) defeated the Houston Texans, 24-16, as running back Saquon Barkley carried the ball 35 times for 152 yards and a score. The Giants happily traded touchdowns for field goals with Houston, as the Texans had three field goals and a touchdown while New York scored touchdowns on three of their four scores. Daniel Jones threw for two touchdowns in the game, including a 54-yard strike to Darius Layton that made it 14-3 early in the third quarter.
Jones finished 13-17 for 197 yards. The quarterback has been impressive with his accuracy, completing 65.8% of his passes for eight touchdowns against just two interceptions. Barkley set season highs for attempts and has rushed for 110+ yards four times this season, including 164 in the opening contest of the season. The Giants defense recorded four sacks.
OT Evan Neal (undisclosed), TE Daniel Ballenger (undisclosed), and CB Rodarius Williams (knee) are all listed as questionable. S Xavier McKinney (hand), DB Cor’Dale Flott (calf), G Ben Bredeson (knee), LB Azeez Ojulari (calf), S Tony Jefferson (foot), and G Shane Lemieux (toe) are all out.
Trends:
Detroit:
- 1-4 ATS in their last five games on field turf
New York:
- 5-1 ATS in their last six games.
- 4-1 ATS in their last five games at home.
- 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 games against teams with a losing record.
Detroit Lions vs. New York Giants Pick Â
The Giants are getting a balanced offensive attack, and that is a formula for success for this club. Barkley is coming off a huge performance and Jones is demonstrating a lot of poise. The only losses for the club this season are against Dallas and at Seattle, teams with a combined record of 12-7, so this club is proving that they are a formidable opponent.
Detroit has won their last two games, winning a defensive battle against Green Bay before lighting it up against the Bears last week. That came on the heels of a five-game losing streak, and this team is capable of dropping another five-game losing streak.
They simply do not have the talent around Goff to compete with the Giants defense or the New York offense for that matter. The Lions are ninth in points scored (24.3), but New York is ninth in points allowed (19.2). The Lions are last in points allowed per game (29.3) and yards allowed per contest (416.2). Look for the Giants to have a lot of success offensively.
Pick: Take the New York Giants at -3.0 (-110)
The Total
This is a big point total. No denying that Detroit is coming off a big offensive effort, putting up 31 points and 323 total yards of offense against Chicago. However, one must consider that this team has produced nine or fewer points in three of their last five games. In fact, after producing 24 or more points in each of their first four-games, including 45 against Seattle in Week 4, they have produced 73 total over their last five. The offensive numbers for this team are deceiving.
The Giants offense has been scoring right in the 20s in most of their contests. In fact, in five of their last six games they scored between 20 and 27 points. They will go a little higher here, but this point total is not going to get close to 46.5.
Pick: Go under 46.5 (-115)
