The new NFL season is upon us and the New York Jets will kick-start their campaign with a home tilt against the Baltimore Ravens on September 11th. Although the Jets are one of the weakest teams in the league and nobody is giving them a slight chance to win Super Bowl, a lot of people are making bets on the Jets. We’ll go through the most popular in this article.
The New York Jets never won the Super Bowl we know today, but they do have one title from 1968 when they upset the Baltimore Colts in that final game, which was for the first time called Super Bowl. Still, that wasn’t the SB we know from the “modern era”, but the Jets fans are to this day proud of quarterback Joe Namath and that generation.
Following six consecutive losing seasons, nobody expects the Jets to go all the way this year. They did have three first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, adding such talents as CB Ahmad Gardner, WR Garrett Wilson, and DE Jermaine Johnson II, but with the +12500 odds to win Super Bowl, not even the biggest optimists believe they can do it.
Here are the biggest favorites to win the Super Bowl this year, according to multiple sportsbooks:
In the Super Bowl era, the New York Jets never won the American Football Conference, and at the moment, they are +7000 to win it this year. Only the Houston Texans are behind them when it comes to odds for the AFC championship at +8000. The • Buffalo Bills lead the way in the AFC, and here you can check out the top 5 favorites to win the conference title from BetMGM:
The Jets are massive underdogs in the American Football Conference East with +2200 odds to win it. That’s not surprising, considering the stiff competition and quality teams such as the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, and New England Patriots, all of which should finish the regular season ahead of the Jets. The Jets managed to win the division on two occasions, in 1998 and 2002, and after 20 years of waiting for a new divisional title, it seems that their fans are going to wait a bit more. These are the odds for the AFC East division from BetMGM:
The New York Jets have finished the last season with a 4-13 record and the bookies expect them to register a few more wins this time around. Only once in the previous six campaigns, the Jets recorded seven wins in a regular season, and it was in 2019.
If you think they can do it again, you can back the Jets Over 6.5 wins at attractive +120 odds, but a more realistic target is Over 5.5 wins at -152. It’s going to be extremely tough to record even six wins with this competition, but the Jets did end the preseason with all three wins and we could clearly see some positives this summer. Here is some other notable season wins total odds from PointsBet:
The No. 26 pick overall out of Florida State, defensive end Jermaine Johnson III is one of the must-watch players in the upcoming NFL season. The 2021 ACC Defensive Player of the Year had 70 tackles and 12.0 sacks last season with the Seminoles and is ready to leave the mark in professional football. Johnson didn’t play a lot in the preseason, recording only one tackle, but he is +900 to be the Defensive Rookie of the Year. Check out other favorites for this award from WynnBet:
