New York and Los Angeles continue their battle at Dodger Stadium with the third contest of a four-game series, so we bring you the best Mets vs. Dodgers betting pick and odds for Saturday, June 4, 2022, with the first pitch at 10:10 PM ET.
The Dodgers are listed as firm -175 home favorites on BetRivers NY Sportsbook. The Mets are +161 moneyline underdogs, while the totals sit at 8.5 runs.Â
The Mets were toothless in Thursday’s opener                        Â
The New York Mets put an end to their six-game winning streak this past Thursday, suffering a 2-0 defeat in the opening clash of this set in LA. Francisco Lindor wasn’t in New York’s lineup due to a finger injury, and the Mets failed to score for the first time in 2022.
Friday night’s game from Dodger Stadium has been excluded from the analysis, and over their previous 13 games, the Mets have scored 87 runs on an excellent .303/.352/.466 slash line. Their pitching staff has struggled a bit in that span, tallying a 4.40 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and .252 batting average against.
David Peterson will toe the rubber Saturday and take on the Dodgers for the first time in his career. The 26-year-old lefty is 2-0 with a 3.03 ERA, 3.99 FIP, and 1.18 WHIP in five starts and one relief appearance (29.2 innings) this season. Last Monday, the Mets routed the Washington Nationals 13-5, and Peterson gave up four earned runs through 4.2 frames while scattering six hits and four walks.
The Dodgers need more from Walker Buehler                      Â
The Los Angeles Dodgers stopped their three-game slide and improved to 34-17 on the season with that narrow win over the Metsies. Tony Gonsolin fired six scoreless frames, proving he’s the Dodgers’ best starting pitcher in 2022.
The Dodgers bounced back from a rough three-game home set against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Walker Buehler, who’ll get the ball Thursday, allowed four earned runs on seven hits across six frames in a no-decision against the Bucs this past Monday.
Buehler is 6-1 with a 3.22 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in ten starts this season, but over his previous four outings, the 27-year-old right-hander has accounted for a poor 5.32 ERA and 4.19 FIP. Walker is 1-0 with a 3.65 ERA in four career starts against the Mets.
Trends:
NY Mets:
- 2-11 in the last 13 games against the Dodgers
LA Dodgers:
- 14-4 in the last 18 games overall
- 5-2 in Walker Buehler’s last seven starts
New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Pick
The current Mets have only 13 hits in 77 at-bats against Walker Buehler, so I’m backing the Dodgers’ ace to right the ship in this marquee matchup. Los Angeles’ lineup holds a .737 OPS against the lefties, and David Peterson will have a tall task to slow down the Dodgers’ offense, which leads the majors with 5.41 runs per game.
New York hopes to get Francisco Lindor back, as his absence is a massive blow for the Mets on both sides of the ball. With Lindor on the shelf, the Mets might struggle to defend behind Peterson, who’s allowed ten runs (nine earned) through his three starts in May.
Pick: Take Los Angeles Dodgers at -175
The Total:
I wasn’t expecting such a low-scoring affair in the opener, but both Tony Gonsolin and Taijuan Walker did a good job. This time around, I lean toward the under, although David Peterson is a tricky factor in Saturday’s contest.
Anyway, both bullpens have registered a sub-3.50 ERA over the last ten days. The Mets and Dodgers can mix and match all night if they need to.
Pick: Go under 8.5 runs at -110
