The 2022 MLB season goes on Friday, May 27, with another NL East classic from Citi Field in New York, so we have prepared the best Phillies vs. Mets betting pick and odds, as these two foes start a three-game series. Â
Phila meets New York for the fourth time in 2022, and the Mets have won the previous three sets with an identical 2-1 result. The Mets open as slight home favorites for Friday’s clash, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.Â
The Phillies hope to finally beat the Mets and return to the right track                        Â
The Philadelphia Phillies are having a rather disappointing season. Their Thursday night’s game against the Braves has been excluded from the analysis, and the 20-24 Phillies were looking to tie a four-game set at Truist Park in Atlanta.
Philadelphia has dropped seven of its previous ten contests. Over the last couple of weeks, the Phillies have slashed .254/.317/.409, but they’ve also registered an underwhelming 4.40 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and .272 batting average against.
Zach Eflin will toe the slab Friday at Citi Field and face the Mets for the second time in 2022. On the first day of May, Eflin was trounced for six runs (five earned) on eight hits across 4.1 frames of work in a 10-6 defeat at Citi Field. The 28-year-old righty holds a decent 3.65 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 35/7 K/BB ratio in seven starts (37 innings) this season.Â
The Mets look to bounce back from a heavy loss in San Francisco                Â
The New York Mets are winless in two straight contests, which hasn’t happened since April 11. After a tough 13-12 defeat at Oracle Park in San Francisco this past Tuesday, the Mets suffered a 9-3 defeat to the Giants on Wednesday afternoon and fell to 29-17 on the season.
New York owns the fourth-highest scoring offense in the MLB, tallying 4.83 runs per game. The Mets rank second in the majors in batting average (.260), fifth in OPS (.730), and 19th in home runs (39). On the pitching side of things, the Metsies carry a 3.74 ERA (12th in the majors), but over the last two weeks, they’ve recorded a 4.62 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and .273 batting average against.
Carlos Carrasco will take the mound Friday and meet the Phillies for the first time in 2022. The veteran right-hander is 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA in one career start and a pair of relief appearances against Philadelphia. He’s 4-1 with a 3.50 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 39/7 K/BB ratio in eight starts and 46.1 frames of work this season.
Trends:
Philadelphia:
- 3-7 in the last ten games overall
- 4-13 in the last 17 road games against the NL East
NY Mets:
- 6-2 in the last eight games against Philadelphia
- 12-7 in the last 19 games at home
Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Mets Pick
Both Zach Eflin and Carlos Carrasco pitched very well last time out. Eflin fanned 12 in the Phillies’ 4-3 victory over the LA Dodgers, while Carrasco threw 5.1 frames of a one-run ball in the Mets’ 5-1 win to Colorado at Coors Field.
Eflin is only 3-5 with a pedestrian 5.03 ERA in 14 career starts against the Mets. Some of the current Metsies are hitting well against Eflin, so keep your eyes on Starling Marte (7-for-13), Dominic Smith (7-for-17), and Jeff McNeil (8-for-25). On the other side, the current Phillies are slashing just .180/.263/.269 in 84 at-bats against Carlos Carrasco.
Pick: Take New York Mets at -126
The Total:
Although Zach Eflin and Carlos Carrasco could dominate this game through the first five or six innings, the Phillies and Mets will need a strong performance from their bullpens to keep the result under the total.
The Phillies’ relievers have posted a 3.60 ERA and a poor 5.08 FIP in the last seven days of action, while the Mets’ bullpen has recorded a 4.61 ERA and 3.23 FIP in that stretch. I lean the over, but Citi Field is a pitcher-friendly ballpark, so the totals are a tricky wager in this matchup. Pick: Go over 8.0 runs at +100
