The MLB schedule is offering us even 17 games on Tuesday, April 19, and among those duels, we have an American League matchup at Comerica Park in Detroit, so make sure you don’t miss out on the best Yankees vs. Tigers betting pick along with the latest odds update on Caesars NY Sportsbook.
These American League rivals met six times last season, and each team swept the home series with three wins. The Yankees are -210 favorites in this one, while the total is set at 8.5 runs.
Yankees disappointed in Baltimore
The New York Yankees dropped to a 5-5 record after losing the series against the Baltimore Orioles on the road. Following a couple of tough series against Boston and Toronto, the Yankees hoped for an easier job against the Orioles, but they managed to score only six runs in three games.
In fact, the Yankees were kept off the scoreboard in the most recent loss as Baltimore secured a 5-0 victory. It was a scoreless game until the 8th inning when reliever Jonathan Loaisiga allowed four runs on two hits. The Yankees registered only four hits in this loss.
Over the first ten games of a new campaign, the Yankees scored 30 runs (25th in the MLB) on a .229/.311/.366 triple-slash. When it comes to pitching, New York’s staff has a 2.53 ERA (4th) and 1.12 WHIP (6th).
Tigers won the series against the Royals
Even though one of four games of the series against the Kansas City Royals on the road was postponed due to bad weather, the Detroit Tigers managed to win it 2-1. They opened the series with a couple of 4-2 and 2-1 victories, but couldn’t get the third in a row as the hosts beat them 3-1.
Matt Manning lasted only two innings as he suffered a shoulder injury, but it appears not to be a serious one, so he shouldn’t miss his next start. He allowed one run on five hits with two Ks before Drew Hutchison stepped in. The score was tied at 1-1 until the 6th when Hunter Dozier hit a two-run homer on a pitch from Will Vest, who took a loss here.
The Tigers are 27th in the MLB in scored runs with 28 on a .201/.290/.318 slash line, while Detroit’s pitchers have a 3.71 ERA (13th) and 1.19 WHIP (9th).
- 7-2 in the last nine games against an opponent in the American League Central Division
- 9-1 in the last ten games following an off day
- 5-2 in the last seven road games
- 1-4 in the last five games at home
- 2-6 in the last eight overall
- 0-4 in the last four during Game 1 of a series
New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers Pick
Gerrit Cole is looking to improve; his first two starts of the season weren’t good, and he should be lucky to have a 0-0 record. After pitching for 9.2 innings, Cole has a 5.59 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with 9K and 2 BB. Detroit suits him well; last season, Cole started twice against the Tigers and had a 1-0 record with a 0.75 ERA, 17 strikeouts, and only one walk over 12.0 innings. He is the biggest reason I am backing the Yankees to win.
Tyler Alexander also didn’t experience the best of starts as he has a 5.06 ERA and 0.94 WHIP with 4 K and no walks in 5.1 innings of work. It was a no-decision against the Boston Red Sox, but I don’t think he will be that lucky on Tuesday. I am backing the Yankees to torture him from the opening inning. New York’s batters must bounce back from a pale display in a series against the Orioles, and this is their game to show quality.
Pick: Take the Yankees to win at -210
The Yankees did disappoint offensively in two of three games against Baltimore, and even though I think they will respond in this one, I don’t expect to see them explode and destroy Detroit’s pitchers. Cole will keep the Tigers’ batters in check and there is no way he will allow more than two runs in likely six innings of work. Alexander will be under more pressure, but he will handle the situation.
The total has gone Under in five of Detroit’s last six games, while the total went Under in four of the Tigers’ previous five games when playing at home against the Yankees. Also, the total has gone Under in eight of New York’s last nine games.
Pick: Go with Under 8.5 runs at -120
