The Buffalo Bills will host the Washington Football Team this weekend in Orchard Park. Western New York has been inundated with rain the past two days. There is a 40% chance of rain Sunday so weather might not play a major factor in this game.
Take a look at Josh Allen’s statistics and compare them to those of Taylor Heinicke and you will find they are nearly the same. In fact, Heinicke has passed for nine more yards than Allen in 23 fewer attempts. Washington defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis and running back Antonio Gibson are questionable for the game. Bills’ wide receiver Gabriel Davis, defensive tackle Star Lotulelei, safety Micah Hyde and cornerback Dane Jackson are all questionable for the matchup. The Bills re favored by 7.5 points. The game’s over/under is 45.5.
Who Will Win the Game?
Buffalo should win this game. However, as the saying goes, on any given Sunday any NFL team can win. The truth that NFL fans don’t want to hear is talent is spread out quite evenly throughout the league, meaning parity create the potential for seemingly inexplicable upsets. As an example, Taylor Heinicke rode the bench for half a decade before finally getting his chance to be a starting quarterback. Heinicke has surpassed expectations while under center for the Football Team. The former Old Dominion quarterback is certainly familiar to fans of the NCAA Football video game as he was surprisingly good in what turned out to be the last year of the series.
In real life, Heinicke has proven just as effective in spite of his small stature. The only question is whether Heinicke can get the ball out of his hand in time to avoid the Bills’ ferocious pass rush. Hybrid defensive end and linebacker AJ Epenessa fractured Tua Tagovailoa’s ribs last weekend. The same could easily happen to the diminutive Heinicke this weekend in Orchard Park.
The only thing that should stop bettors from going all in on the Bills is Washington’s top-notch defense. The Redskins allowed 20 points to the Chargers’ vaunted offense in week one. However, Washington struggled a bit on the defensive side against the suddenly explosive New York Giants’ offense last week on Thursday Night Football. Though the Football Team won the game by a point, they would have lost had the Giants not gone offsides on what looked like the final play of the game.
The Bills are too good to lose this game at home. Tease the Bills from 7.5 points down to 2.5 points so you can cash your ticket in the event that the Bills win by a field goal.
What About the Over/Under?
The Bills might struggle to put up 20-24 points against the Washington defense. Washington has had 10 days of rest prior to this game. The Football Team is healthy on defense so the Bills will likely end up scoring around 23 points.
The question is whether Taylor Heinicke can lead the Football Team to 20+ points. Heinicke’s arm strength isn’t the best. Antonio Gibson is likely to play in spite of his questionable status. Even if Gibson is out, former UB Bull Jarret Patterson and J.D. McKissic are certainly capable of carrying the load for the Football Team. Washington has enough firepower on offense to put up three touchdowns. However, it will be a struggle as the Bills’ pass rush comes in waves.
This game should end up slightly under the over/under point total of 45.5.
