There will be plenty of action in Week 5 of the NFL as we have 14 games on Sunday, October 9, including this divisional rivalry game in New York, and here you can take a look at the Dolphins vs. Jets betting pick and odds.
Miami is hoping to improve to a 4-1 record when they visit New York at MetLife Stadium. The Dolphins are 3-point favorites on PointsBet NY Sportsbook, while the total is set at 46 points. These AFC East foes have met twice in 2021, and the Dolphins won both games.
Dolphins suffered the first loss of the season
The Miami Dolphins (3-1, 3-1 ATS) started this season with three consecutive victories, but they couldn’t make it four in a row as they lost 27-15 to the Cincinnati Bengals on the road. Miami had a 15-14 lead after three quarters but didn’t score in the final 15 minutes, while Cincy scored 13 to secure a W. The Dolphins weren’t bad in this loss, but committed two turnovers and failed to force a single one on the other end.
Tua Tagovailoa completed eight of 14 passes for 110 yards and one interception. He suffered a concussion and was carted off the field and taken to hospital, but managed to get out and returned with the team back to Miami. Teddy Bridgewater took over under center and completed 14 of 23 passes for 193 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Chase Edmonds registered that receiving TD, but Tyreek Hill led all the receivers with 160 yards on ten catches. Raheem Mostert led all the runners with 69 yards on 15 rushing attempts. Jerome Baker led the team on defense with seven tackles.
QB Tua Tagovailoa (head) is out and will not travel to New York to face the Jets on Sunday, while CB Xavien Howard is questionable with a groin injury.
Jets beat the Steelers on the road
The New York Jets (2-2, 2-2 ATS) are perhaps struggling to get a win at home, but they recorded their second road victory of the season as they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Jets trailed by ten points early in the fourth quarter but scored a couple of touchdowns, including Breece Hall’s 2-yard TD run with just 16 seconds remaining to make it 24-20.
Zach Wilson is back from injury and led his team to the win. He completed 18 of 36 passes for 252 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Wide receiver Braxton Berrios also had a passing touchdown, and he tossed that pass to quarterback Wilson. Corey Davis led the Jets in receiving yards with 74 and a score on five catches, while Breece Hall had 66 rushing yards and a TD on 17 attempts. New York recorded four interceptions; Lamarcus Joyner led with a pair of picks, while C.J. Mosley led all the defenders with 11 total tackles.
T Max Mitchell (knee) and LB Quincy Williams (ankle) are out and will not feature on Sunday against Miami.
Trends:
Miami:
- 4-1 ATS in the last five games overall
- 4-1 ATS in the last five vs. AFC rivals
- 4-1-1 ATS in the last six vs. AFC East opponents
New York:
- 2-6 ATS in the last eight home games
- 7-19-1 ATS in the last 27 vs. AFC East rivals
- 2-7 ATS in the last nine games following an ATS win
Miami Dolphins and New York Jets Pick Â
Even though the Dolphins will be without Tua Tagovailoa, Miami still has a better team than the Jets and I am backing them to get an edge on Sunday. Teddy Bridgewater is experienced enough to lead the offense, and although I don’t expect him to throw bombs to Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, the pair still can hurt the Jets’ secondary beyond repair. Miami’s defense is not great as it allows 22.8 ppg, but given that the Jets are scoring 19.0 ppg, I think the Dolphins will be able to control the hosts. It will be a tight encounter, but I am going with the Dolphins.
Pick: Take the Dolphins at -2.5 (-135)
The Total
After an eruption of 42 points against Baltimore, Miami scored just 36 points in the next two games, but the Dolphins should be fine for 20+ points here as the Jets conceded 20+ in each game this season. I have no faith in the Jets’ offense, even with healthy Zach Wilson, so I don’t expect to see a high-scoring affair on Sunday. Under is 4-1 in the last five H2H meetings; Under is 5-0 in the previous five H2H duels in New York, Under is 6-1 in the Dolphins’ last seven road games, while Under is 9-3 in Miami’s previous 12 vs. AFC East opponents.
Pick: Go Under 47.5 points (-135)
